About Me

My name is Jim Parris and I am a geek. I started with a Timex Sinclair 1000 when I was 13, graduated to a Tandy Coco a month later. After that I was hooked.

I was never very good at video games, so I wrote my own games on the Tandy Coco using assembly. After that, I got into Pascal.
When I was 18 I joined the Marine Corps and when they asked what I wanted to do, I said, “Computers!”
They said, “No problem, you’ll have to wait 18 months to come in.”

No way could I stay at home and wait that long, so I decided I was bored with computers and went in as a Jet Engine mechanic. During the 5 years in the Marines, I never lost interest in computers, as a matter of fact, I computerized our operations. When I got out of the Marines I realized I loved computers and have never looked back.

My first job was as a NetWare Administrator and then got into Training and Consulting.  For 15 years, I was a contract trainer, teaching Microsoft, Cisco, Magic Help Desk, and Novell products.  I was on the road about 35-45 weeks a year.  After 9/11, I worked for 6 months over the next two years.  That was tough financially, but I really enjoyed the time home with the family so I decided I would never go back to a job on the road.  Now I’m a full-time SCCM Administrator for a large corporation and I get to go home every night.  I love what I do and thought I would share some of my experiences with you.

My areas of interest are:

  • System Configuration Manager 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server (All Versions)
  • VBScript
  • PowerShell
  • C#

My reason for this web site is to spawn conversation and learn new things. I don’t know it all, and I’m going to make mistakes, but I find I learn more when I share information and get information back. Please enjoy!
